AI visibility checker: free SEO and GEO audit
The Toffyjar AI visibility checker is a free SEO and GEO audit that shows whether Google can rank a page and AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity can find and quote it. Enter a URL and get an SEO score, a GEO score, about 35 checks across 10 areas and a prioritized fix list in roughly 10 seconds.

QUICK ANSWER
What does the AI visibility checker test?
The AI visibility checker audits one page for the signals that decide whether search engines rank it and AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews can find, trust and quote it. It returns an SEO score and a GEO score out of 100, checks ten areas (meta and headings, indexing, JSON-LD schema, Open Graph, hreflang, AI bot access in robots.txt, llms.txt, citability, images and links) and lists the fixes that matter most first. It reads the page from our server, like a crawler does, so it sees what bots see. In total it runs about 35 checks, weighted by impact, and it finishes in roughly 10 seconds for a typical page under 2 MB. For example, if your robots.txt blocks ClaudeBot, the AI bot access tab shows exactly which rule blocks it and what to change.
METHOD
How are the SEO and GEO scores calculated?
| Area | Score | What passes |
|---|---|---|
| Meta and headings | SEO | Title 30 to 65 characters, meta description, one H1, H2 structure, lang |
| Indexing | SEO | HTTP 200, no noindex, canonical, robots.txt with sitemap |
| Schema | GEO | Valid JSON-LD with an entity and a page type |
| AI bot access | GEO | OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Bingbot allowed |
| llms.txt | GEO | File at /llms.txt with a title and links |
| Citability | GEO | 600+ words, question headings, FAQ, numbers, author, date |
| Images and links | SEO | Alt text, dimensions, internal links, sources |
Each check is weighted by impact. A pass earns full points, a warning half, a fail none. The weights are our own judgment from running audits for clients; they are a guide, not a ranking guarantee. AI crawler access carries the most weight (12 points) because a blocked page cannot be cited at all, followed by HTTP status and indexability (10 points each). Lighter checks, such as hreflang or a Twitter/X card, carry 2 points.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why can a page rank on Google but never get cited by AI?
Ranking and citation use different signals. A page can rank on Google yet be invisible to AI answers if robots.txt blocks AI crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot or ClaudeBot, if key content only appears after JavaScript runs, or if the page never states a clear, quotable answer. AI assistants prefer pages that name the entity behind them in schema, answer the question in the first sentences of a section, and back claims with numbers and sources. Google, for example, can rank a page whose key facts sit in an image or a slider, but an AI assistant summarizing the web needs those facts as text. Learn the difference in GEO vs SEO.

What should I do after the audit?
- Fix access first. Unblock AI search bots such as OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot, and remove accidental noindex tags. This is step 1 because no other fix matters if crawlers cannot read the page.
- Add structure. Organization, BreadcrumbList and page-type schema, plus an llms.txt file.
- Rewrite for answers. Question-led H2s with a direct 40 to 60 word answer under each.
- Track it. Re-run this check after changes, or get a full GEO audit that tests real prompts across AI engines.
In practice, work through the fix list from the top: it is sorted with failed checks first and heavier checks before lighter ones, so the first three items are usually the fastest route to a higher GEO score.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is the AI visibility checker free?
Yes. The AI visibility checker is a free tool with no sign-up and no paywall. You can check up to 10 pages an hour, and each check takes about 10 seconds because the tool fetches your page, robots.txt and llms.txt live from our server. Nothing is stored unless you choose to email yourself the report; in that case we keep your email and the URL you checked so we can send it. For example, an agency can audit a client's homepage, pricing page and top blog post in under a minute and compare the three GEO scores side by side.
What is a GEO score?
A GEO score is a 0 to 100 estimate of how ready a page is to be found, understood and quoted by AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. GEO stands for generative engine optimization. The checker weighs four groups of signals: AI crawler access in robots.txt (the heaviest single check), valid JSON-LD schema that names the business, an llms.txt file, and citability, meaning question-led headings, an FAQ, specific numbers, an author and a freshness date. A score above 85 means the page is technically ready; content authority still decides who gets cited.
Does a high score guarantee AI citations?
No. A high score means the page is technically ready, not that an assistant will cite it. Whether ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity mentions you also depends on off-page signals: how often your brand is mentioned on other sites, your reviews on platforms such as Clutch and GoodFirms, Wikipedia and Reddit coverage, and the exact wording of the prompt. For example, a page scoring 95 can still be absent from answers to "best WordPress agency" if competitors have stronger third-party mentions. A full GEO audit tests real prompts across engines and maps those gaps.
Why does the checker say my page is blocked for AI bots?
The checker reads your live robots.txt and applies the rules for each named bot, such as OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot, to the exact page path, using the most specific user-agent group and the longest matching rule. Many sites block AI bots by accident: a security plugin adds a blanket rule, a CDN such as Cloudflare enables its AI-bot blocking toggle, or a developer copies a robots.txt that disallows everything except Googlebot. Some blocks happen at the firewall rather than in robots.txt, so test with a real fetch if the result surprises you.
Can it check pages behind a login or on a private network?
No. The checker only audits public web pages, which is also what AI crawlers can see. For security it accepts domain names only (not raw IP addresses), fetches over ports 80 and 443, resolves the domain first and refuses any address in a private or reserved range such as 10.0.0.0/8, 192.168.0.0/16 or 169.254.0.0/16. It follows at most three redirects and re-checks each one, and it stops reading after 2 MB or 10 seconds. To audit a staging site, make it publicly reachable for the test or ask Toffyjar for a manual review.
